Well, I loved my Tacoma; I was the original possessor, and information technology has been paid off for at least eight years. I take one kid (2 years onetime) and have another on the manner. To accommodate a rear-facing kid seat in the Tacoma, the passenger front seat was practically all the way upwardly. We made information technology work, simply realized it'south non going to work with a second kid. … In the F-150 SuperCrew, the rider front seat is all the way dorsum and is barely touching the auto seat!" — Cars.com consumer review for 2017 F-150; Bentonville, Ark.

"So far, this truck fits my needs: towing, four×four, huge cab space (room for 2 dog crates with the seats up), very comfortable and fun to drive, reasonable mpg." — 2020 F-150; Jordan, Minn.

"I purchased a new 2019 Ford F-150 with quite a few options. I'm a big guy (half-dozen-human foot-3 and large-boned) with ii younger children that require machine seats. There is still some room behind me with the seat backed up all of the fashion." — 2019 F-150; Pineville, Ky.

"Information technology runs smoothly, has crawly acceleration and a big spacious backseat in the crew cab — beloved it. It has a nice interior with lots of storage, and the 2.vii-liter EcoBoost is a neat engine for my needs." — 2020 F-150; Endicott, N.Y.

"I am pleased with the safety and roominess of my F-150 SuperCrew cab. It is  non every bit fancy as the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited I had prior, but it has a not bad deal more rearseat [room] and legroom. It feels adept to drive; a bit more than challenging to park, merely the rear camera helps with that." — 2019 F-150; Tucson, Ariz.

The F-150'due south x-speed transmission was conviction-inducing, as were its towing mirrors and 360-degree cameras.

"I endemic a [Toyota] Tundra, which was a keen truck, but it is not an F-150 — just my opinion. My F-150 XLT tows similar a gnaw with the Max Tow Package and it has awesome gas mileage; the 10-speed is a big plus; it is very comfy and well built. It is simply just a solid one-half-ton truck." — 2020 F-150; Ridgecrest, Calif.

"The 2020 F-150 XLT, 2.7-liter EcoBoost is a fantastic truck; information technology drives smoothly with lots of power. I haul lumber and firewood with it on a regular ground and it handles the weight amend than my 2015 Ram 1500 Hemi ever did. I was expecting improve fuel mileage out of the EcoBoost simply still getting over 20 mpg." — 2020 F-150; Ontario, Can.

"My Ford F-150 XLT with the 3.5-liter 5-six EcoBoost is the perfect truck for urban center usage and pulling a trailer. I was looking at Lariats, simply institute this XLT with almost all the bells and whistles of the Lariat, but at a lower price. It'south a smooth ride with a massive amount of room inside for my family unit, and information technology hands pulls our trailer." — 2019 F-150; Portland, Ore.

"This is my second F-150 powered by the EcoBoost 3.5-liter. The first was new in 2011, and at 224,000 miles, it was time to part ways. This truck came used as a 2017 with the three.5-liter. It has pulling power for lots of nine,000-pound trailer towing in the hills of western Pennsylvania. — 2017 F-150; Washington, Pa.

Rave: Impressive MPG

Pickup trucks aren't exactly known to be fuel efficient, just the F-150 bucks this trend according to some owners. The 2020 F-150's EPA ratings range from a combined 19 mpg for the 5.0-liter V-8 to 24 mpg for the turbo-diesel 3.0-liter. Some of the F-150's diesel fuel-powered competitors receive higher ratings, however: The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel gets 26 mpg combined and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Duramax gets 27 mpg. Where the F-150 really excelled in a Cars.com evaluation was in its towing fuel economic system, which averaged xiii.2 mpg with a 3.5-liter V-six.

"I have had the vehicle for 17 months and I'm impressed with the ride, treatment, ability, off-route adequacy and remote start temperature control. I have the FX4 Off-Road Package, V-8 engine, 302A Package, towing package, sport appearance, xx-inch wheels and 36-gallon tank. The power is unbelievable getting on and off the freeway, and it accelerates smoothly. My quondam 2004 truck got 13/15 mpg; this one gets 18 city, twenty metropolis/highway and 22 highway. I'm totally impressed." — 2019 F-150; Brighton, Mich.

"Information technology'south very all-around and has plenty of power when needed, yet it's tuned to be very efficient. With the two.7-liter EcoBoost and 10-speed transmission, I've averaged 24.8 combined mpg on my work errands. That's impressive for a 4×four full-size truck with 325 hp." — 2019 F-150; Hanover, Pa

"I love the 2019 F-150 XLT with the ii.7-liter EcoBoost. It is quick, gets 25-26 mpg at lx mph, has comfortable seats and the x-speed transmission is smooth shifting; the simply time I notice anything is when slowing down to turn corners." — 2019 F-150; Backus, Minn.

"After owning a Tacoma and [Nissan] Borderland (which when I needed to haul something, I couldn't due to the small bed size), I started looking for a total-size truck. However, I did not need a four-door truck. The 2017 F-150 SuperCab fits the bill. Great driver'southward cabin, extra storage area and vi.v-foot bed. I went with the 5.0-liter V-8 and six-speed automatic. In seven weeks, I have been averaging eighteen.7 mpg and so I am very happy. That'due south better mpg than the Tacoma and Frontier."— 2017 F-150; Arden, Due north.C.

"I love my new F-150. The three.5-liter engine is very responsive with plenty of power and acceleration. The ride is smooth and the truck handles very nicely. The fuel mileage is great for a iv×four and is one of the biggest reasons I purchased this truck." — 2020 F-150; Jonesville, Mich.

Rant: Troublesome Transmission

A x-speed transmission became available in 2017, but some owners are not pleased with the improver. Mutual complaints include the transmission's rough shifts and the struggle to find the right gear. Our skilful evaluation found the 10-speed provides crisp and efficient shifts, but it was reluctant to downshift when paired with the turbo-diesel fuel 3.0-liter.

"I like the features and information technology gets decent gas mileage [with] four-wheel drive. It'south very quiet, rides well and has plenty of power with the 5.0-liter V-eight. But, the new 10-speed manual is junk — it doesn't know what gear it wants to be in." — 2018 F-150; Carencro, La.

"The 2017 was the first generation of the 10-speed transmission. I have been in the service center 2 times for the manual. I have heard through talking with other truck enthusiasts that this was a huge trouble twelvemonth for Ford'due south 10-speed. Supposedly, they take gotten better over the years, but I am stuck with mine." — 2017 F-150; West Islip, North.Y.

"I just traded in a 2017 F-150 with the 2.vii-liter Five-half-dozen; it ran like a sewing machine. This one has the bigger 5-6 with a ten-speed and information technology is terrible! Information technology stutters and can't make up one's mind what gear it wants to be in. Y'all take to warm it up even on a summer solar day earlier you go out on the highway, otherwise it will shake you to decease. I want my 2017 back!" — 2020 F-150; Kearney, Neb.

"This is a overnice truck! I take the coiffure-cab Lariat and it's very roomy within. The overall features and quality seem to be on point. The just complaint I take is that the 10-speed transmission is rough shifting and a real canis familiaris unless you put it in Sport mode. — 2019 F-150; Providence, R.I.

"I love this truck. Ford is on pinnacle of their game with the styling and all of the engineering features but the downfall is the 10-speed manual. The manual is constantly searching for gears and it bucks and jerks. Can't wait to trade information technology for a Super Duty just to get rid of the 10-speed." — 2018 F-150; Odessa, Texas.

Rant: Where'd the Oil Go?

ford-f-150-limited-2019-06-engine--exterior.jpg Ford F-150 Limited | Cars.com photograph past M.R. Whale

Excessive oil consumption is a known issue for 2018-xx models of the F-150 equipped with the 5.0-liter V-eight, and some owners have experienced the flaw immediate. In December 2019, Ford issued a technical service message outlining the oil consumption problem and service recommendations. The message states that the affected vehicles have excessive oil consumption of greater than 1 quart in 3,000 miles with no visible oil leaks.

As a solution for mechanics, Ford recommended reprogramming the powertrain control module, installing a new dipstick, and changing the oil and oil filter; there was no recollect issued. A class-action lawsuit against Ford followed, claiming the defect can cause unexpected engine stalling and engine failure.

"[The] 2019 [F-150] XLT with a 5.0 5-viii is a nice-looking truck and its ride is smooth. Withal, the engine is going through excessive oil consumption, 1.5 quarts per thou miles. Extremely disappointed with the quality." — 2019 F-150; Ishpeming, Mich.

"I dearest the look and the interior of the truck, all the same it is using oil: 1.5 quarts in the first five,000 miles. I'g currently doing an oil consumption test through the service department. I accept been a loyal Ford possessor forever and have e'er loved the Five-8s. What has happened to quality?" — 2018 F-150; Willis, Texas

Rant: An Annoying Finish-Start System

03-ford-f-150-lariat-diesel-2019-cl.jpg Ford F-150 Lariat Diesel | Cars.com photo by Christian Lantry

An car stop-showtime system was added for all engines in the F-150's 2018 refresh. While information technology'due south intended to amend fuel efficiency, some owners claim that the system causes a rough restart, and others are frustrated that the system tin can't be permanently disabled.

"Nice vehicle — mine's an XLT crew cab, four×4, 6.five-human foot bed and 3.v-liter EcoBoost. I'g getting 22 mpg driving dorsum and forth to boondocks. A major annoyance is the auto stop-start: There's a button on the dash to disable it, but yous accept to practice it every fourth dimension you arrive the vehicle. At that place should exist a software setting or positive gear up button." — 2019 F-150; Greenville, South.C.

"At that place are a few things Ford could have done better, just they are small-scale in my opinion. The machine stop-kickoff is not my favorite feature. Its performance should be like the heated seats. When you plow on the heated seats, they stay turned on even after you shut off the truck and first it once more later. The auto stop-offset has a push button to plough it off, but merely for the current operation of the vehicle. It should stay on or off until you lot choose a different setting." — 2019 F-150; Yorktown, Va.

"The truck has plenty of ability; the styling is awesome; the interior is comfortable and spacious. This is my third F-150 and although it's dainty considering it'southward new, I miss my 2015 F-150. My 2019 is a 5.0-liter iv×4 SuperCrew. The auto stop-start characteristic is really abrasive; the whole truck shakes when it starts support." — 2019 F-150; Greensboro, North.C.
